SDA: Communications hub for scholars, members

SDA is the communications arm for the Order of Kush. All of our news reports, whether delivered by television, radio or the internet, are channeled through this network. That includes press releases, public service announcements, photographs, video tapes and computer disks. In short, SDA is our eyes, ears and voice for the rest of the world.

SDA is also the launching point for the syndication of the contents of our websites. Syndication is done through SDA-TV, an internet television subsidiary and the SDA Radio Network, both owned by Order of Kush International and headquartered in Chicago. In future, we will be offering televised news and public affairs programs, African cooking shows, call-in and educational shows, including the online African language classes offered at Kush University. Our intent is to explore every facet of the African World.

SDA Podcasts and Other Programs

What is a Podcast?

In a nutshell, podcasting is the relatively new phenomenon of publishing media files—usually MP3s—so that they are available for download to anybody who subscribes to them. A typical podcast is a talk radio show, recorded so that you can listen to it when it's convenient for you. The underlying transport technology is no different from an RSS newsfeed, except that you listen to the feed rather than read it.

The podcasts listed below are from a variety of sources, including the BBC, which produces the World Book Club show, a program that invites the globe's great authors to discuss their best known work. This monthly program, presented by Harriett Gilbert, includes questions by World Service listeners.

Chinua Achebe — To mark the 50th anniversary of the first publication of his acclaimed novel "Things Fall Apart," Gilbert repeated her memorable World Book Club interview with bestselling Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe. (27 min., 7/30/08)

Alice Walker — Known for her literary fiction, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Color Purple, Walker shared the stage with author-activist Gloria Steinem at the 92nd Street Y on May 22, 2007. In the following 6-minute excerpt they discuss the "politics of heaven."

Cornel West   — This September 2003 interview with Chris Lydon shows West at his "entertainingly serious and seriously entertaining" best as "a moral and political provocateur, a stylist and individualist."
